- Scope/content
- The Photos by BIRON collection primarily consists of photographs and artworks created by Photos by BIRON from the 1990s-2020s. 13 boxes include more than 1100 original photographs and artworks. These works includes digital prints (primarily color but some black & white) and black & white (some hand-colored) photocopy “Blow-ups”. The collection also includes publications, both books and periodicals, featuring BIRON’s images and original props used during his photoshoots. BIRON’s work during this period focused on capturing “multicultural male images both gay and straight” through both studio shoots as well as street photography at San Francisco events and locations including the Folsom Steet Fair, San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebrations, and Club Jesus. Though his work primarily focuses on the male model, BIRON’s work also includes lesbian, transgender, and non-binary models. A second component of the collection, is material from BIRON’s personal library including art and photography publications, and LGBTQIA+ publications including regional publications from Michigan, Ohio and Canada (Toronto) from the 1970s.
