It was the 1960’s in my childhood home and my parents had remodeled the basement into a fashionable recreation room with wood paneling, pool table, and bar. Two inconspicuous beer steins sat on a shelf behind the bar. They had four, happy barbershop quartet singers on the front. As a curious 8-9 year old child, I took the steins down from the shelf and looked inside. I was surprised to see that each had a rather large figurine of a nude lady. Month later, my father had some man over that I had never seen before and gave him a beer in one of these steins. I watched the man drink. When the nude figurine appeared, the man’s eyes bugged out and his mouth dropped! My father let out a hearty laugh. I “faked my response” stood there looking innocent and naïve. My father had no idea that I knew that about these mugs and I never told him.” – the donor, CS, describing the history of the objects.
