Notes
ISR 273. According to Asayama: "This is a Do-so-Jin: a bell with a depiction of a couple embracing. Since sex is a good thing it has good magical value and because of this a depiction of sex can ward off evil spirits. Therefore many villages in Japan used to have a Do-so-Jin at each road entrance to the village so that evil spirits could not enter. This is a small modern Do-so-Jin."
