Clifford Odets (July 18, 1906 - August 18, 1963), born in Philadelphia, was an American playwright and screenwriter. Raised between Philadelphia and New York, Odets dropped out of high school began acting and working in the theatre. Odets became a member of the Group Theatre in 1931, along with Harold Clurman, Lee Strasberg, Elia Kazan, Stella Adler, and Sanford Meisner. Odets works include the play Waiting for Lefty (1935) and the screenplay Sweet Smell of Success (1957). Acquired ; 2010. Photocopying permitted only with the permission of the Curator of Manuscripts, Lilly Library. Cataloger supplied title. Written in pencil with Odets' annotations in pencil and pen.
