Title-page recto with woodcut of a blind beggar being driven across a footbridge by a wealthy youth; verso with woodcut of mendicant couple with staffs and rosary. Signatures: a⁶ b-c⁴ Text divided into three sections: a list of 28 types of rootless characters, a section detailing more than a dozen ruses, and the first printed wordlist of the prototypical criminal language, Rotwelsch. More than half the entries in vocabulary at end accompanied by manuscript small, neat ink drawings in a contemporary hand.depicting the person or object referred to. With bookplate of Robert Offley Ashburton Crewe-Milnes (1858-1945), 1st Marquess of Crewe; diamond-shaped ticket of his daughter, Lady Celia Crewe-Milnes (born 1884); and bookplate of Ricky Jay (1946-2018).
